We are pleased to bring you the inside scoop from Chicago chefs over the next two weeks.

Chicago is one of our favorite cities and very close to our hearts. Troy and I lived there for nearly a decade.

One of the things I’m most proud of from my time there was founding the Fun Young Foodie Club (FYFC), a gourmet dining business. FYFC hosted 1-3 culinary events per month to truly taste Chicago. Events always included an evening with the chef, many courses, free flowing libations and a whole lot of fun.

A smattering of my favorite FYFC events below (2003-2006):

• Cooking classes with James Beard award-winning chefs such as Paul Kahan (Paul’s Chef Rec coming next)

• Evenings sampling the best ethnic gems in Chicago (Taiwanese, Malaysian, Vietnamese, Korean BBQ)

• Exquisite ingredient tastings including an oyster shoot-out (caught and flown in that day), sushi, artisan cheeses and chocolate

• Paired dinners with Champagne, cognac, tequila and wine

I feel at home when I see the Chicago chefs at the 2011 SPAGIO event. Many of Chicago’s most legendary chefs come to Columbus to generously donate their time to help kids at Nationwide Children’s Hospital.

The first chef we are featuring in this Chicago line-up is John Hogan. Chef Hogan is a critically acclaimed master of simple French and American cuisine. He built his track record at Chicago’s Everest, Kiki’s Bistro, Le Perroquet, Park Avenue Cafe and as chef and proprietor of the award winning Savarin.

Chef Hogan currently presents American classics with a Chicago twist at Keefer’s as well as Tavern at the Park. Visit Keefer’s to experience his “utterly pretenseless” approach.
