Michael Ruhlman’s answers posted: Next week

If any of you are not yet familiar with Michael Ruhlman, he is one of the BEST food writers of our time. Trained by the Culinary Institute of America, the words of this chef/author can be found in The New York Times, Gourmet Magazine, Saveur and in nearly 20 books. His work with Thomas Keller and The French Laundry Family includes four masterful books, and his title The Soul of a Chef: The Pursuit of Perfection is widely considered a food bible. He recently released Ruhlman’s Twenty showcasing his top 20 culinary techniques.

Michael is no stranger to Columbus. For those of you in Ohio, you may recall that he visited our town during Anthony Bourdain’s “No Reservations” which did not showcase the culinary scene of Columbus in a superb light. Michael and his friend Les Jacobs were asked back by Jim Budros, Steve Stover and Rich Terapak for a “re-do” and taken to places like North Market, Jeni’s Ice Cream, Pistacia Vera, City Barbeque, Alana’s and more. Michael referred to this guru group as the “Columbus Food Mafia” and experienced Columbus in a new way (article about this in Edible Columbus, Spring 2011). Feel free to ask Michael the dirt about the “re-do” and his updated thoughts about Columbus.

ChopSizzlePop! will be giving a copy of his latest book Ruhlman’s Twenty to a lucky member on our email list in the coming weeks. Be sure to sign-up for our weekly email updates to be entered in the drawing.

So join the fun and submit a question for Michael Ruhlman to carole@chopsizzlepop.com before this Thursday at 11:00am.

Where you you get your inspiration to pair unlikely foods together? How much trial and error do you have to go through before you find the perfect flavor combination?

Cupcakes are going out, bacon is still kicking, and food carts are huge. What are a few cooking and dining trends you see on the horizon?
