Troy and I make our way to Alba, Italy, to learn about wine with Giuseppe. He is located in the Piedmont region known for the Nebbiolo grape and Barberesco & Barolo wines.
Giuseppe Iuliano is a generous guy with tons of personality. He teaches Agrarian Chemistry at the wine school Scuola enologica di Alba and works with the winery Cascina Ca’Rossa.
Upon our arrival to his abode, Giuseppe has to excuse himself for a wine emergency. One of his former WWOOFers Loni shows us around Alba. Loni is studying wine in Alba and learning from the best. We instantly hit it off.
Loni takes us to Giuseppe’s school where she works in the lab with renowned Enologist Carlo Arnulfo (expert in the science of winemaking). Carlo teaches in the cantina and works in the tasting room. He also consults with about 20 clients to perfect their wines. Loni gets to help him and says that he is “like a wine doctor.”
The grounds are breathtaking and we are fascinated to learn about the education offered at this institution. Founded in 1881, Scuola enologica di Alba is a high school dedicated to a rigurous education in viticulture (study of grapes) and enology (study of wine and winemaking).
